過去の環境変動

人間の経済的活動にによって空気中の二酸化炭素などの温室効果ガスが増加し,これから地球の表層部の温度はどんどんあがるらしい。あれ?うそっ。だって子どもの頃,今の地球は温暖期で,その内,また氷期がやってくるって習ったよ?

というわけで,結局何がホントで何が間違っているかは,「習った内容」がどういうデータ・理解によって確立されたか(されてないか)知っておく必要があるわけです。

過去の環境変動を湖沼堆積物を用いて研究するプロジェクトに参加して,主としてルミネッセンス法を用いた年代決定に貢献しています。実際は貢献というよりはまだ基礎実験を行っている状態ですが,いろいろ勉強できるし,東アジアに「同じ釜の飯を食う」友だち(?)ができる醍醐味があります。
